We are listing today for your consideration an antique (19th century – beginning 20th century) oil on canvas painting depicting men drinking in a pub. I found this great painting in an auction in Phoenix, AZ, and is sold in as found original antique condition.
The painting weighs approximately 36 oz, measures 16″ x 9″ x 2″ at the outer wood frame, and the showing tacked and stretched canvas measures 11 1/4″ x 4 1/4″. I couldn’t find the artist’s signature, but according to an appraisal this painting is attributable to the German artist Eduard Von Grützner.
A beautiful painting, it would make a great addition to anyone’s collection or home. You can also check another listing I have with two German beer steins depicting also a Grützner painting (see picture #12). I’d give you a discount if buying the oil painting and the two beer steins together!
Condition is nice. This piece of art has a charm that only comes with age and the passing of time. The wood gesso frame appears to be original to the painting. It has some surface wear and loss to the gold gilding paint, as well as some wear and loss to the gesso design. Back is dark with crackle marks and old nails in the stretcher area. Canvas has some crazing to the oil paint and may have a few small paint chips off. No tears or rips.
